Diagnose
Based on a diagnosed need, retrieve, interpret, and/or repackage relevant information resources, and evaluate their use and impact.
The artifacts that I chose to illustrate my applications of this “outcome” are similar in that they both focus on learning, and repackaging what I had learned, about emerging metadata standards.
I chose to take advantage of LI804’s focus on theories of the organization of information to seek out projects that enabled me to gather information on these (and other) innovative formats. I felt then, as I do now, that, with changes that are taking place in how users expect information to be stored, arranged, displayed, and retrieved, traditional formats and classification schemes like MARC and LCSH (not to mention traditional systems like the vendor-based ILS) are not able to serve libraries’ patrons as they wish to be served.
